How to Choose Your Scooter

There are many things to consider how choosing the right scooter is for you. So how do you choose which one is right for your needs? Here is a few things to keep in mind when wondering how to choose a scooter. Gathering information about scooters you are interested in purchasing is important.

Indoors Use or Outdoors Use

Please choose carefully how these options will benefit you when choosing a scooter:
  • Wheel size and type (you'll want to choose how big and robust the wheels are for outdoors use and you'll probably choose a 4 wheel model, how about the Go Go Elite)
  • Turning radius (you'll want to choose how tight a radius is needed for your indoor use)

Weight Capacity

Bariatric users will have to choose a scooter with support for how heavy the weight range is. Make sure to check the weight capacity to know how to choose a scooter that will support your weight. How much weight a scooter will hold is listed with the scooters info. Just because it's a bariatric scooter, how it will support your weight is still an option you have to choose.

Insurance Coverage

Medicare and many other insurances have to choose how they will cover the benefits of the scooter on a patient by patient basis. Most will choose to only cover the least expensive models and most will not choose to cover a scooter, unless you can show how a regular wheelchair cannot meet your needs. However, in some cases, insurance companies will choose to pay for the cost of a wheelchair and allow you to get a scooter, as long as you choose to pay the difference in cost between the two products. Get the proper information on scooters before you choose how to bill your insurance companies.

Portability

When deciding how to choose a scooter, understand how some scooters are much more portable then others. There are lightweight scooters you can choose from, which easily disassemble with a few snap together parts. Take into consideration how you will need to choose a lift for the scooter for it's transportation. You will be required to know how to transport your scooter.
